The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the burning of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor’s country home, stressing that those against Biafra’s liberation and the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, are responsible for the arson.
It stated that perpetrators of the ugly act did so to create the wrong impression that Biafra agitators were violent.
Gunmen had set ablaze Obiozor’s residence at Awomanma in Oru East Council of Imo State on Saturday morning just detonated explosives on vehicles at the Ohanaeze leader’s home.
IPOB, however, denied involvement in the incident through a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, describing the attack as “shameful and disgraceful to Ndigbo,” and stressed the need to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
“We the global family of IPOB, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, totally condemn the burning of Prof. George Obiozor’s country home. This barbaric act is shameful and disgraceful to Ndigbo.”
“There is no gainsaying the fact that criminals behind this cowardly act are those against the liberation of Biafra and the release of our leader Nnamdi Kanu so as to create the wrong impression that Biafra agitators are violent. Those behind this evil act have nothing to do with IPOB, ESN or Biafra agitation. They are sponsored criminals and must be made to face the consequences of their action.
“We don’t consider Obiozor an enemy of IPOB and the Biafra struggle. So, anybody targeting him for attack is treading on dangerous grounds. He has done nothing to deserve such attack,” the statement reads.
It added that IPOB would stop at nothing to unravel those behind the dastardly attack and cautioned that criminal elements being recruited by evil politicians to wreck havoc on Igbo land to stop their murderous activities or brace up for IPOB.
“Wicked politicians should be held responsible for the destruction of Igbo land. IPOB is ready to confront the criminals created by politicians in the name of Ebubeagu Security Outfit, which they intended to use to replace the Eastern Security Network (ESN),” it said.
