President Tinubu holds closed-door meeting with Fubara in Lagos

Fubara with Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, held a closed-door meeting with the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, in Lagos State.

Tinubu met with Fubara at his residence in the Ikoyi area of Lagos on Tuesday.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the meeting in a post on X.

“Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday,” Onanuga wrote.

The meeting marked the first official engagement between the president and the suspended governor since the controversial declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18.

Tinubu, who hinged the declaration on the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, suspended Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the state House of Assembly for six months.

The president, therefore, appointed former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd) as sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.
