The police on Wednesday, charged a 34-year-old man, Daniel Bassey, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan over alleged impersonation on Facebook.
Bassey, whose address was not provided is standing trial on charges of impersonation.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec.1, at about 2.00 p.m. at Kuola in Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant presented himself on facebook and Whatsapp as a White lady with the name Anna Aldean, living in US, with the intent to defraud.
He alleged that the defendant also used signal app numbers all with the intent to defraud.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 484 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one reliable surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Jan.22, 2026, for hearing.
