Brazil is strengthening its agricultural ties with the United Arab Emirates through a high-level trade mission led by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. This visit aims to enhance trade relations and highlight Brazil’s growing role as a key food supplier to the UAE.
Vice-Minister Iraja Rezende de Lacerda is leading the delegation, which includes senior officials responsible for trade, agricultural defence, and policy planning. Their mission underscores the strategic importance of Brazil’s agribusiness sector in ensuring food security for the UAE.
The UAE is currently one of the largest importers of Brazilian agricultural products, with trade between the two nations witnessing significant growth in recent years.
The Brazilian delegation is participating in Gulfood 2025 in Dubai, a major global food exhibition, to promote its agricultural exports. Meetings with Emirati authorities and visits to agro-industrial facilities are also part of the agenda.
During discussions, Brazilian officials highlighted the country’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in food production. They emphasised Brazil’s efforts to expand its presence in the UAE market, particularly in emerging sectors such as tropical fruits.
Traditional exports such as meat, sugar, ethanol, coffee, and forest products continue to play a dominant role in trade.
Sustainability is a key focus of this mission, with Brazil preparing to host COP30 later this year. Officials noted that Brazil aims to build on the climate discussions initiated at COP28 in Dubai and exchange best practices for improving agricultural productivity while minimising environmental impact.
Food security remains a priority for the UAE, and Brazil has positioned itself as a trusted partner in meeting this demand. Brazilian meat exports to the UAE have reached significant levels, with sugar and ethanol also accounting for a major share of trade.
Officials see potential for further expansion, particularly as demand for high-quality agricultural products continues to rise.
At Gulfood 2025, Brazil is showcasing its agribusiness strength, not only through staple exports like beef and poultry but also through organic and speciality products such as acai, mango, and Brazil nuts.
These products are gaining popularity in the UAE, reflecting a shift towards more diverse and sustainable food options.
The trade delegation is also focusing on addressing regulatory challenges related to sanitary and phytosanitary standards. Ensuring smooth export processes is crucial for strengthening long-term agricultural trade between the two nations.
Brazilian officials reiterated their commitment to working closely with Emirati partners to maintain high food safety standards while expanding market opportunities.
Beyond trade, Brazil is keen on fostering long-term partnerships based on trust and innovation. Officials stressed that Brazil is not just a supplier but a strategic ally for the UAE in building a secure and sustainable food supply chain.
The country’s growing credibility in the global agricultural market reinforces its role as a key player in international food security.
