Gospel singer Omije Ojumi Burial plans totally cancelled – Family

The family of late Nigerian Gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, also known as Omije Ojumi, has called off the burial plans earlier announced for her funeral.

Truthng reports that the cancellation was announced on Saturday in a statement shared on social media by Lanre Alewilese, a close associate of the late singer and a member of the burial planning committee.

He explained that the decision was taken due to issues within the singer’s family and said all arrangements put together by the committee had been withdrawn.

In the statement, Alewilese said, “To whom it may concern: This is to inform you that all plans and arrangements for the burial of our late sister and colleague, Lady Evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. Omije Ojumi, by the Burial Planning Committee have been totally cancelled. This decision became necessary due to some issues arising from and within her family. We deeply regret the inconvenience.”

Omije Ojumi passed away on January 12 at a hospital in Lagos after battling a long-term leg problem.

Her health condition had drawn attention from members of the gospel music community, with many offering prayers and support before her death.

Before the announcement, details of her burial had already been shared online.

The schedule included a service of songs, a candlelight procession, an artistes’ night and her burial, which were planned for January 20 and 21, 2026.

The information was circulated by gospel singer Alayo Melody on behalf of the family.

As of now, the family has not released any new date or fresh arrangements for the burial.
