The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Netherlands Government have deepened collaboration on migration management with the handover of digital tools to enhance Nigeria’s border security.
This followed a visit by a Dutch delegation to the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, led by Mr J. Bartelink, Chargé d’Affaires at the Netherlands Embassy.
A statement by NIS spokesman, Akinsola Akinlabi, on Monday in Abuja, said the visit followed an earlier official trip by NIS Comptroller General, Mrs Kemi Nandap.
During the engagement, Bartelink presented Edison Software licence keys and the third edition of the Passport Examination Programme Manual (PEPM III) App to the NIS.
He said the tools would greatly improve the Service’s capacity in document verification and migration control.
Bartelink also reaffirmed the Netherlands’ support for Nigeria’s border reforms and praised the strong bilateral relationship.
He noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to addressing global migration issues using technology and innovation.
Mr Rob Bokhoven, Director of International Affairs at the Netherlands Ministry of Justice and Security, also addressed the meeting.
Bokhoven disclosed plans to introduce a mobile border control software for the NIS.
He said the software would modernise Nigeria’s border surveillance system and enhance operational effectiveness.
In her remarks, NIS Comptroller-General Nandap expressed gratitude for the Netherlands’ ongoing technical assistance.
She described the deployment of Edison Software and PEPM III as a strategic upgrade to Nigeria’s border management structure.
Nandap said it would also support the implementation of the National Migration Policy.
“This partnership is a model of effective international cooperation, aiding efforts to curb irregular migration and improve national security,” she stated.
