The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced the full restoration of operations on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) following an explosion that disrupted activities earlier this month.
The explosion occurred on December 10, 2025, along the pipeline in Warri, Delta State.
According to the company, emergency response measures were immediately activated to contain the incident and repair the damaged section of the critical gas transportation infrastructure.
In a statement signed by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer for the NNPC Ltd in Abuja on Monday, the national oil company said the pipeline had now been repaired, pressure-tested, and safely recommissioned, bringing it back to full operational capacity.
“Following the unexpected explosion, we immediately activated our emergency response, deployed coordinated containment measures, and worked tirelessly with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the damaged section was repaired and safely recommissioned.
“Today, the pipeline is fully operational, reaffirming our resilience and commitment to energy security,” he said.
The national oil company credited the swift restoration to collaboration with host communities, regulatory authorities, security agencies, and industry partners.
“This achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of our host communities, the guidance of regulators, the vigilance of security agencies, and the dedication of our partners and staff,” Odeh said.
“Together, we turned a challenging moment into a success story, restoring operations in record time while upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.”
According to the statement, the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System is a major artery for gas supply to power plants and industries across Nigeria, and its disruption often has significant implications for electricity generation and industrial output.
NNPC Ltd reiterated its commitment to environmental protection and asset integrity as operations resume.
“As we move forward, NNPC Limited remains steadfast in its pledge to protect our environment, safeguard our communities, and maintain the integrity and reliability of our assets,” the statement added.
The company thanked stakeholders and the public for their trust, noting that it remains focused on ensuring reliable energy supply for Nigeria and the wider region.
