Reps suspends plenary in honour of late Sen. Akwashiki

The House of Representatives on Tuesday adjourned plenary in honour of the late Sen. Godiya Akwashiki (SDP-Nasarawa) who passed away in India at the age of 52 after a prolonged illness.

The Deputy Speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu who gave the ruling, said that the adjournment was in line with the assembly’s traditions to honour any member who died in active service.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akwashiki first represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 and was re-elected on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2023.

Kalu said that the house also to mourned two former lawmakers who passed on during the Yuletide, Sen. Okechukwu Ezea, Enugu North Senatorial District (2023–2025) and Sen. John Kojo–Brambaifa, Bayelsa West Senatorial District (2003–2007).
