Troops kill 3 Boko haram suicide bombers in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised three Boko Haram suicide bombers and their escorts in an operation conducted along the Guduf–Pulka axis in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The operation, which was based on covert intelligence and conducted in collaboration with local volunteer forces, successfully halted the attackers before they could carry out planned assaults on civilian targets.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sani Uba.

“Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralised three terrorist suicide bombers following a deliberate, intelligence-driven operation.

“The operation led to the tracking and neutralisation of the suicide bombers before they could carry out planned attacks on innocent civilians,” the statement read.

Uba said the bombers were dispatched by the Ali Ngulde-led faction of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, operating from the Mandara Mountains.

During the encounter, troops recovered suicide vests and other IED components in possession of the terrorists, which were safely secured. Heavy casualties were also inflicted on the terrorist escorts.

“Troops also inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorist escorts accompanying the suicide bombers,” Uba added.

He disclosed that some of the terrorists fled into the Mandara Mountains under pressure from continued military action.

He said, “In the course of exploitation, troops recovered four AK-47 rifles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, while two motorcycles used by the terrorists were destroyed.”

Uba said the operation forms part of intensified efforts to dismantle terror cells and prevent further attacks using human intelligence, communication intercepts, and other surveillance tools.
