10 unidentified corpses litter Edo community

Police operatives in Edo State have confirmed the discovery of 10 unidentified corpses between Ibillo and Lampese in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State.

The State Police spokesman, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor, said the vigilante commander of the area reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Akoko-Edo, adding that the dead bodies were all males.

Nwabuzor said: “Immediately, he (DPO) went with his men and discovered the dead bodies.

“In a close examination, a cellophane was discovered in the mouth of one of the corpses. There is no other mark of violence in any of the bodies but that cellophane suggests that it could have been through suffocation that accelerated their deaths.

“Meanwhile, the bodies have been taken to the hospital, deposited for autopsy examination while investigation is currently ongoing to determine the cause of death and the culprits that were responsible”, he stated.

It was gathered that some of the bodies were said to have been first discovered by farmers on their way to the farm around 7:30am on Tuesday and then alerted members of the vigilante group.

The vigilante body reportedly thereafter combed the area and discovered more bodies numbering 10.

A resident in the area who craved for annonimity said: “The corpses seem to be fresh because blood was coming out of the mouths of about two or three of them, but there were no signs of gunshots.”
