The troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised three bandits and recovered three guns, motorcycles and dozens of ammunition in Kadam forest of Sokoto State, an official had said.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoboa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Sokoto and made available to newsmen, on Monday.
Osoboa stated that the operation was conducted by Troops of the Chief of Army State Special Intervention Battalion 7, in conjunction with 8 Division Strike Team, under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
According to him, the troops eliminated the terrorists at Kadam forest, following a decisive engagement with a notorious terrorist network affiliated with Lakurawa Terrorists in Tangaza LGA of the state.
“The operation was initiated following credible intelligence indicating that about 100 terrorists had converged on Kadam forest in an attempt to coordinate attacks and kidnap people in the local communities,” he said.
Osoboa explained that during the encounter, troops recovered one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62 Special, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles and a mobile phone.
He stated that the troop’s morale remained high with the fighting efficiency assessed as strong and unwavering.
”This operation demonstrates the continued effectiveness of intelligence-driven, joint security operations in degrading terrorist networks and disrupting their sustainment capabilities.
”Aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations will continue across the area to exploit this success, disrupt fleeing terrorist elements and prevent their regrouping,” Osoboa added.
