Bulls continue to dominate as stock market gains N1.005trn

Bulls continued to dominate the Nigerian Equities market, building on the positive momentum recorded the previous days, thus concluding the trading session in the green zone.

The benchmark NGX All-Share Index (NGXASI) showed a notable increase of 1833.72 basis points in Thursday’s session to 91896.97 points against 90,063.25 points reported on Wednesday.

Market capitalisation of listed equities also gained N1.005 trillion or 2.04 per cent to N50.289 trillion from N49.284 trillion reported the previous day.

The year to date gain of NGX ASI rose to 27.90 per cent as the Exchange printed higher number of losers (42) than gainers (33)

A review of market activities yesterday showed that five recorded 10 per cent price appreciation at the close of trading on Thursday.

Eterna Plc, NEM Insurance, Unity Bank gained 10 per cent each to close at N20.90, N8.25 and N3.30 per share respectively.

Conoil Plc and John Holt added 10 per cent to close respectively at N112.20 per share and 2.53 per unit.

On the contrary, Ikeja Hotel topped losers chart, dropping by 9.79 per cent to N8.11, Royal Express trailed with a loss of 9.78 per cent to close at N0.83 per unit, Mutual Benefits down by 9.57 per cent to close at N0.85 per share, Linkage Assurance fell by 9.40 per cent to close at N1.35 per share and Japaul Gold declined by 9.33 per cent to close at N2.43 per unit

Volume of Transactions declined by 158 million, representing 12.17 per cent as investors exchanged 1.140 billion shares valued at N19.293 billion in 17804 deals against 1.298 billion shares worth N16.381 billion in 17471 deals.

The result further showed that Transnational Corporation of Nigeria was the most active stock during the day, exchanging 156.620 million shares valued at N55.576 million, Universal insurance followed with 114.548 million shares cost N55.576 million, Veritas Kapital traded 69.413 million shares valued at N47.825 million, Jaiz Bank exchanged 65.865 million shares cost N243.887 million, GTCO Plc sold a total of 63.442 million shares worth N2.884 billion.
