CORBON and COREN Strengthen Collaboration with MoU Signing

The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration and synergy in the built environment.

The MoU, which is the first between regulatory bodies in the built environment marks a significant milestone in the relationship between the two Councils. It aims to promote excellence, professionalism, and innovation within the building and construction industry.

Some key areas of collaboration established by the MoU are:
i. Joint monitoring and inspection on building projects;
ii. Joint accreditation and certification of laboratories;
iii. Joint capacity building training for registrants of both Councils to improve professional expertise;
iv. Data sharing and reporting of relevant data, reports and findings to enhance decision making and regulatory oversight; and
v. Enforcement and Regulatory compliance with standards.

According to the CORBON Chairman, Bldr. Samson Ameh Opaluwah, the MOU marks “a new chapter of cooperation and collaboration towards mutual growth, rather than competition and confrontation”. It further underscores CORBON’s commitment to foster a collaborative and cooperative environment within the industry. The COREN President, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar added that the “partnership will enable us to leverage our collective expertise and resources to drive innovation and excellence in the industry.” He further made a clarion call for collaboration of this nature to be encouraged and deepened amongst all regulatory bodies.

By prioritizing mutual growth and innovation over competition, the Councils are paving the way for a more unified and progressive built environment.

Present at the MOU signing ceremony were CORBON Council Members – Bldr. Prof. Shehu Ahmadu Bustani, Bldr. Ukponirefe Aimiuwu and Bldr. Dr. Sunday Imong – CORBON Registrar, Bldr. Adetunji Adeniran, mni, COREN Registrar, Engr. Prof. OAU Uche, Ag. Executive Secretary NIOB, Bldr. Patricia Ehi, MD/CEO of Tectonics Group, Engr. Aisha Kawu Gombe and other management staff of the two Councils.
