Court remands 2 men over alleged cable theft worth N975,000

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, ordered the remand of two men in a Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing cables worth N975,000.

The defendants: Francis Dogo, 27 and Aaron Amana, 28, both residents of Kakuri Kaduna, are standing trial for conspiracy and stealing.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel gave the order after the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, had told the court that investigation in the matter was ongoing.

Emmanuel, however ordered the defence counsel, A. A. Sadiq to file a formal written application for the defendants` bail.

He adjourned the matter until April 22, for hearing on bail application.

Earlier, the prosecutor had told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Feb. 28 at Down Quarters Kakuri Kaduna.

Leo stated that defendants had on the same date at about 10.00pm, broke into Apex Steel Construction Ltd. and stole cables worth N975,000.

“The defendants were caught by some security guards who handed them over to the police,” he said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his oral bail application, Sadiq, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms, citing sections 158 and 168 of the Administrative of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
