Court sentences teacher to prison for flogging pupil to death

The Children’s Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka, Anambra State, has sentenced a teacher, Mrs. Faith Nwoye, to 21 years of imprisonment.

The teacher, who is a staff member of Landmark International School in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, flogged a nine-year-old student, Henry, to death.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, condoled with the deceased’s family, the school, and the state government for the loss.

Chuma-Udeh, who was represented at the burial by the Director of Schools in the Ministry of Education, Mrs Ifeoma Onyeneke expressed despair that one of the State’s hopefuls was gone in a manner that could have been avoided.

She lamented that the little boy would still be alive if he were enrolled in an approved school with qualified teachers.
