Crime : Police Parade 21 Suspects, Recover Diverted Bus Loaded With Vehicle Engines, Military Uniforms, Live Ammunition, Others

No fewer than 21 suspects have been paraded in Ibadan, the cap­ital city of Oyo State on Monday following their alleged involve­ment in one criminal case or the other.

The suspects were parad­ed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Adewale Osifeso, at the state Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

Addressing journalists over the development, SP. Osifeso, noted that some members of notorious syndicate that special­ised in hijacking and diversion of vehicles loaded with valu­ables on highway at various parts of the state on October 28, 2022 at about 0030hrs inter­cepted one Mitsubishi Canter Bus with registration number SUL 982 KP loaded with Forty ‘’40’’ pieces of Vehicle Engines valued at (N20,000,000) at Fiditi area, Oyo along Ibadan/Oyo Expressway.

Osifeso who gave names of the suspected hijackers as Kazeem Korede, aged 37, Ope Dauda, 32; Olanlokun Idowu, 36; Saheed Nafiu, aged 40; Kehinde Sunday 35, also maintained that the notorious men reportedly armed attacked the driver of the vehicle, one Jamiu Abdu­lahi, dispossessing him of the Mitsubishi Canter Bus with the goods loaded therein and divert­ed it to an unknown location.

The state PPRO in his ad­dress stated further that the incident was reported at the nearest police station and re­ferred to the Command Mon­itoring Unit, Eleyele Ibadan, stressing that upon receiving the complaint, a team of Police Operatives attached to the Com­mand Monitoring Unit Eleyele Ibadan immediately swung into action and in the process four members of the criminal syndicate who later identified themselves as Kazeem Korede ‘M’, Ope Dauda ‘M’, Olanlokun Idowu‘M’AndSaheedNafiu‘m’ were arrested in their hideout at Iyana Offa area, Ibadan, and the diverted MITSUBISHI Bus with the forty pieces of vehicle engines were recovered.”

One Mazda Bus with regis­tration number KJA 777 XC and one Bajaj Motorcycle were used for the criminal activity were recovered from the suspects, according to the state PPRO.

Osifeso said the suspects have since confessed to the crime and other ones executed at different locations in the State and its adjoining boundaries, noted that investigation contin­ues with assurances of updates.

He said exhibits recovered from the suspects are one Mit­subishi Canter vehicle with registration number SUL 982 KP, one Mazda Bus with regis­tration number KJA 777 XC, 40 pieces of vehicle engines, one Bajaj Motorcycle with registra­tion number AGG 092 QN, one Techno Phone, one torch light.

While speaking about other suspects paraded at the Com­mand Headquarters, SP. Osifeso maintained thatateamof Police operatives attached to the Mon­itoring Unit of the state Police Command while on intelligence based anti-crime patrol within the metropolis on October 27, 2022 at about 1030hrs intercept­ed a criminal gang whose mode of operation was to disguise as military officers by wearing mil­itary camouflage uniform and other accoutrements to attack and rob unsuspecting members of the public at Ajoda and Egbe­da axis of Ibadan.

He noted that as at the time of apprehension, the suspects were adorned in military gears as part of the modalities for their operation.

The prime suspect, one Adeniji John Bukola ‘m’ at the time of arrest had in his posses­sion a single barrel gun. Upon interrogation, the suspect was unable to give any satisfactory explanation about the military uniforms and the gun recovered from him.

However he assisted by providing gainful information which later led to the arrest of two other members of his crim­inal gang at Asejire area of the state and the two additional suspects identified themselves as Sunday Daniel ‘m’ and Afeez Suliman ‘m’
