Disu’s Reform agenda deepens as Ogun CP appoints Daramola to strategic crime unit

The Ogun State Police Command has strengthened its operational capacity against violent crimes, with the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Daramola Sunday Thompson as Commander of the newly reinforced Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The appointment, approved by the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, is in direct execution of ongoing reform initiatives spearheaded by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at restructuring tactical policing frameworks across state commands.

Announcing the development in a statement issued today, the Command said the move underscores a strategic shift toward intelligence-driven, professional, and coordinated responses to violent crimes in Ogun State.

According to the statement, the creation and strengthening of the VCRU is designed to enhance operational efficiency, reinforce accountability, and deliver swift interventions in the face of evolving security threats.

The selection of CSP Daramola followed a rigorous screening process, which also signalled the commencement of an intensive orientation programme for newly enlisted personnel of the unit. The Commissioner of Police, alongside members of the Command Management Team, personally supervised the exercise, providing strategic direction and reinforcing the reform agenda at the operational level.

A seasoned crime-fighter, CSP Daramola brings a wealth of experience to the role. He previously served as Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Cultism Unit and the CP Monitoring Unit in Ogun State, as well as headed the Anti-Fraud and Anti-Car Theft Units in Ekiti State Command. He also served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Noyo Division in Ebonyi State, where he built a reputation for disciplined and results-oriented policing.

CP Ojajuni charged the new VCRU commander to align strictly with the Inspector-General’s reform blueprint by upholding professionalism, discipline, and integrity, while ensuring rapid, lawful, and effective responses to violent criminal activities across the state.

Truthng learnt that the move reflects a growing emphasis within the Nigeria Police Force on specialised, intelligence-led units capable of confronting violent crime with precision and speed, an approach increasingly seen as critical to modern policing in Nigeria.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that the restructured unit would play a pivotal role in restoring public confidence and maintaining law and order across Ogun State.
