The Chairman, Governing Board of Ebira Muslims Community College Okenwe, EMCCO, Kogi State, Alh Sule Aliyu has commended the Gov Yahaya Bello administration for the giant stride it has made in re-positioning the education sector in the state. He however called on the administration to invest more in education by allocating more funds to the training and retraining of teachers, stating that teachers must be well trained in-order to enable them impact quantitative knowledge on students.
While saying that Governor Yahaya Bello deserves a second term in order consolidate the achievements of the current tenure, he observed that the efforts to revitalize the state’s education sector can be crowned by increasing the remuneration of teachers, stating that teachers deserve better pay package.
The Board Chairman, who gave the commendation recently during the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the institution as well as the fund raising ceremony of the institution, organised by its old students association, also called on all stakeholders to work together for the reelection of Gov Yahaya Bello.
He said it is commendable that the 1995 Set of the college aims to raise funds for the maintenance of college infrastructure, adding that all stakeholders need to work together to preserve properties in the college domain, stating that infrastructure needs to be maintained to enhance its longevity.
According to the Chairman, ‘if the next generation must take over from the current generation, adequate provision must be made to prepare the upcoming generation for the future.’
He also commended the effort being made by the Clark of the National Assembly, Alh. Mohammed Sani-Omolori and Hon. Tijani Damisa who he said, individually erected blocks of classrooms in the school.
The President, Head Boys of Old Students Association of EMCCO, Alh. Haruna Ozomata, expressed appreciation to the members of the association for consistently being together for more than a decade, saying that the unity of members has brought meaningful achievement to the school in terms of maintaining the infrastructure and financial interventions made for the purpose of financing scholarship for indigent students.
He explained that financial support from members of the Old Boys Association made it possible for the association some indigent students of the school to meet the financial needs of education, saying that some of them are already in the universities.
He appealed to the members of the association to continue to support indigent students while commending the Chairman, Organizing Committee, Alh. Yoonus Suleiman for his purposeful leadership of the association.
