NIGERIA foremost human rights activist and constitutional lawyer pounced on South Africa telecommunications giant for “whimsically and capriciously barring Nigerians telephone lines without any wrongdoing”, Chief Mike Ozekhome said.

In a terse press statement made available to our Correspondent, Chief Ozekhome slammed the South African company for Taking Nigerians for a ride.

“Has Nigeria got so low and fallen into such an abysmal state of nadir that MTN, a South African Telecommunications Conglomerate can simply decide to bar any and every line it whimsically and capriciously desires, without the owners having committed no offence or done any wrong?

That is what Nigerians in their multitude have been going through in the hands of MTN since yesterday. At many MTN centres across Nigeria, the battle has been raging physically between customers as regards first-come-first-serve in their desperate quest to get their lines reopened. What’s going on, MTN?”, Ozekhome queried.

Sources at the MTN office in Kano State told Trojan.com.ng Correspondent that majority of the youthful population have been experiencing outright connectivity problems in the last few days and attributed the reasons to possible connivance between Nigeria government and MTN to frustrate the proposed August 1st to 10th protests.

Nigerians are expressing frustration and concern about MTN’s decision to bar certain phone lines without any apparent reason or explanation, causing inconvenience and distress to many Nigerians.

The situation seems to be causing physical altercations at MTN centers as customers try to get their lines reopened. Multiple sources contacted are questioning MTN’s actions and wondering if Nigeria has become so vulnerable that a foreign company can treat its citizens with such disregard.
