A few hours after the attack on soldiers in Ihiala, gunmen invaded Atta, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo state, setting ablaze the Divisional Police Headquarters as well as the Magistrate and High Courts.
Also vandalised by them was the community’s health centre.
The hoodlums were said to have shot sporadically for close to an hour before burning the government owned facilities in the community.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident saying that some hoodlums mobilised in large numbers, stormed the premises of the High/Magistrate Court Attah and set it on fire.
They also damaged a building that was constructed by the community intended to be used as Police Station in Attah, Njaba Local Government Area.
Upon the receipt of the complaint, Police Special Forces were deployed to the scene. The Commissioner of Police Imo state, CP Abutu Yaro, has ordered a full investigation into the incident and directed that no stone should be left unturned until the perpetrators of such heinous crime are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.
