Nigeria is a poor country – Onanuga

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has said that Nigeria’s wealth has been exaggerated.

Onanuga made this known during his appearance on a monitored Arise News TV’s programme on Monday.

He said, “Nigeria is a very very poor country, to be honest. I think our wealth is overestimated. I think we have a poor estimation of the wealth of the country, we are a very poor country.”

Bayero had told Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to inform her husband about the unprecedented hardship in the country.

In the same vein, the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero on Sunday, said that the union may demand N1 million as the new minimum wage for government worker.

Responding to the duo, the Presidential aide said that with the removal of subsidies on petrol and the unification of the exchange rate, the government is hoping that the pressure on the country’s finances will reduce.
