NMGS postpones 2020 AGM amid COVID19 Concerns

The Nigerian Mining and Geoscienecs Society (NMGS) has announced the postponement of her 56th Annual International Conference and Exhibition (Ibadan 2020), earlier scheduled to begin from Sunday March 22nd through Friday 27th March 2020, at Ibadan.

The President of the Society, Engr Obadiah Simon Nkom who said a new date will be communicated in due course, explained that the postponement became necessary in order to address public health concerns caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The President, who regretted the inconveniences the postponement could cause prospective participants, said: “The postponement is necessitated by directives from health authorities at Federal and State government levels on the need to avoid crowd exceeding fifty people for the time being, as a result of the prevailing COVID19 issue in the country.”

Describing the postponement as “a painful but necessary decision,” Engr Nkom explained that the Council did not arrive at the decision with ease, stating that the “decision was reached after careful deliberation and consultation with Council Members and with very senior members of the Society.”

“It is the prayer of Council that our nation and the world at large would soon overcome the Coronavirus pandemic,” adding that the Council looks forward to restoration of safety in large gatherings,” he said.

“Be assured of the sanctity and fidelity of the registration of members who have registered for the conference,” he said, adding that the NMGS will continue to promote its aims and objectives.
