A 26-year-old man, Samuel Akapo, on Monday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged indecent assault.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of indecent assault.
The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept.19 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant unlawfully and indecently assaulted the complainant, Beauty Bello.
Oriyomi said that the defendant was a tenant in the house of the complainant’s mother and attempted to take advantage of her.
He explained that the mother of the complainant, who came inside the house during the assault, caught the defendant and she raised alarm.
He said that the offence contravened Section 149(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Tunmise Akinwumi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 3 for hearing.
