Pre-Conference Masterclass Ignites GGCE 2025 with Practical Training in Jewellery, Gemstones, and Beneficiation

The Gold and Gemstone Conference and Expo (GGCE) 2025 opened with a dynamic Pre-Conference Masterclass designed to equip participants with practical skills and deepened knowledge crucial to Africa’s growing mineral sector.

The specialised masterclass began with an introductory training session led by renowned gemstone expert, Prof. Tersoo Aga, who took participants through the fundamentals of beneficiation processes and the various types of gemstones found across the continent.
This was followed by an engaging session on bead making, facilitated by Mrs. Abdullahi, during which students had the opportunity to create their own bead pieces through hands-on practice.

By Tuesday, the training advanced into live, practical demonstrations on gold jewellery making, immersing participants in real-time production techniques.

The session was steered by lead trainer Mr. Labi Kapo from South Africa, supported by Wumba Kapo and Abuja-based jeweller Mr. Akomaye, all of whom brought world-class expertise to the workshop. Cutting and faceting demonstrations were conducted by Nigeria’s own master faceter, Pastor Zeph Ndaja, rounding off a comprehensive technical learning experience.

The masterclass attracted strong participation across states. Ninety (90) participants attended on the first day, focusing on beneficiation basics, while ninety-five (95) participants joined on the second day, with Kogi State leading with 21 attendees, followed by Oyo State with 14.

These activities form part of the build-up to the Gold and Gemstone Conference and Expo (GGCE), a landmark event shaping the future of Africa’s mineral wealth. Scheduled to run from November 26 to 28, 2025, the conference will bring together industry leaders, investors, innovators, and experts for three insightful days under the theme: “Accelerating Collaboration for Sustainable Gold and Gemstone Development in Africa.”

The event will hold daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Grand Ballroom, Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, offering participants access to world-class exhibitions, transformative masterclasses, strategic networking opportunities, and groundbreaking discussions aimed at redefining the continent’s gold and gemstone sector.
