A Lugbe Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a scavenger, Aliyu Abdullahi to 12 months imprisonment stealing two gas cylinders.
Abdullahi, 23, of Lugbe Zone 5 Abuja pleaded guilty to house breaking and theft, but begged for leniency.
The Judge, Mr Aliyu Kagarko, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30,000 and warned him to desist from committing crime in the future.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Olisaemeka Okeke told the court that the complainant, Mr Uchnna Okafor of Lugbe Zone 6 Airport Road, Abuja, arrested the convict.
Okeke said the convict stole two 6kg gas cylinders worth N64,600 from the complainant’s house.
He said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 353 and 288 of the Penal Code.
