The Executive Governor of Jigawa state Alhaji Muhammad Badaru has assured that, there will not be another Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU Strike in the country saying that government is working hard to ensure the issue is resolve as soon as possible.
It will be recalled that after 8 months of strike action, ASUU called off the strike just last month, but the report has it that ASUU may embark on another strike as a result of payment of lecturer’s half salary that is generating a lot of issues in the country.
He gave this assurance at official Inauguration of Executive Council of National Association Nigerian Students NANS for 2022/2023 Academic Session on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him, there would not be another ASUU strike, I want to assured Nigerians students government is working hard to ensure the issue is nailed, all the 36 Governors because none of governors will not want to answer the call of the students, so, we will support NANS and make sure things improve for the of the student’s.
On the payment of half salary for lecturers that is generating issues we have started working on it, and by the grace of God we will get to the bottom of this, ASUU strike will be resolved, we pray there won’t be another strike.
“We have suffered enough, President Muhammadu is aware of this, and we are looking at different ways to finalize the salary payment of ASUU.
“My door is widely opened for NANS and I will do my best to ensure NANS progress more.”
He called on NANS Executive to always do things that will bring unity to the country saying one of the things that bring association down is disunity.
“President of National Association Nigerian Students NANS Comrade Usman Barambu called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency and with all sense of sincerity and commitment to address all issues relating to their agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities to forestall future industrial actions that will keep our students out of campus for almost a year.
“As Nigerian Students will not condone any form of industrial actions that will keep our members out of campus again.
“The leadership of NANS demands a better deal for education of Nigerian masses because most of the Children of the privileged few now study either abroad or in Private Universities established with our common wealth across the country by the same set of people we entrusted to govern us then while they won’t turn deaf ears to the demand by ASUU for improved standard and condition of learning in our public higher institutions.”
He promised that the new exco will leave no stone unturned toward betterment of Nigerian students.
Speaking also was Chairman Inauguration Planning Committee, Comrade Smart Olalekan Edward said the newly NANS Exco under the leadership of Comrade Usman Barambu will bring collective blessing to all Nigerian students.
However, he appreciated all the mediators which includes, APC Presidential candidate Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the Jigawa state Governor Muhammadu Badaru , the Speaker House of rep Femi Gbajabiamila, Governor of Delta state Ifeanyi Okowa as well as NANS stakeholders.
