Trading in stock market rises to N1.6trn

The local equity market Tuesday maintained its bullish momentum to close the trading for day in the green region.

 

The benchmark NGX All-Share Index (NGXASI) recorded an increase of 2848.85 basis points to 98616.97 points from 95768.12 traded on Monday, marking another all-time high.

 

The yesterday’s positive performance was attributed to investors’ buying activities in a medium and capitalised stocks like BuaCement, Seplat Energy, Dangote Cement, Eterna and 13 others.

 

Consequently, the year-to-date return surged to 31.89 per cent.

 

In the same vein, the overall market capitalisation of listed equities gained N1.559 trillion or 2.971 per cent to N63.967 trillion from N52.408 trillion recorded on the previous day.

 

An analysis of the investment showed that BuaCement Plc and Seplat Energy led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N163.35 and N2795.10 per shares respectively. Dangote Cement followed with 9.99 per cent to close at N651.80, Eterna Plc added 9.92 per cent to close at N27.70 per unit, Meyer Paint increased by 9.88 per cent to close at N3.56 per share.

 

On the contrary, six companies depreciated by 10 per cent each at the close of Transactions on Tuesday.

 

Deep Capital Plc, John Holt, May and Baker declined by 10 per cent each to close at N0.81, N7.70 and N7.38 per share respectively. Mutual Benefits, PZ Cusson and TIP fell by 10 per cent to close respectively at N0.72 per unit, N31.50 and N0.63 per share.

 

Investors exchanged 747.51 million shares valued at N16.28 billion in 16589 deals against 721.81 million shares valued at N14.41 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 15757 deals.

 

Transactions in the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria led market activities with 77.710 million shares valued at N1.291 billion, Sterling Bank followed with account of 72.310 million shares cost N485.730 million AccessCorp traded 47.166 million shares worth N1.352 billion, Zenith Bank exchanged 32.026 million shares cost N1.343 billion and Jaiz Bank sold a total of 31.406 million shares worth N88.357 million
