Two men, Musa Umaru, 25, and Godwin David, 31, were on Friday docked in a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, for allegedly attempting to steal a cow.
The duo, whose addresses were not given, were charged with conspiracy, attempt to commit felony to wit stealing and assault.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on June 16 at about 5.10 p.m. in the Bashorun area of Ibadan.
Amusan said the defendants unlawfully attempted to untie the cow at the premises of its owner, Adebisi Olopoeyan.
He said the defendants also assaulted a police officer, Disu Bankole, attempting to dispossess him of his gun while arresting them for investigation.
According to the prosecution, the defendants beat up the police officer as well as the security guard at the place, Sikiru Ajibola, while performing their lawful duties.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 509 and 356 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The president of the court, Mrs Sukurat Yusuf, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until Aug. 2 for hearing.
