WIMIN will shape growth, development of mining sector

President of the Women In Mining In Nigeria (WIMIN), Engr. Janet Adeyemi has said that the group will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the growth and development of mining sector in the country.

 

In her during the swearing-in of the new executive of WIMIN in Abuja, Adeyemi, urged the new executive to focus on building a sustainable legacy that would shape the sector.

 

The WIMIN President noted that the Association is not just focused on empowering its members but will also

act as a “transformative force, enriching individual lives and contributing substantively to the holistic development and prosperity of our communities.

 

“Our mission is to foster a supportive community that inspires innovation, sustainability, and excellence, driving positive change for women and the mining sector as a whole.

 

“Our programs, rooted in community engagement, research, capacity building, strategic dialogue, advocacy, and campaigns, are built on principles of partnership and a rights-based approach. Through these tools, we strive to break barriers, promote diversity, and ensure equal opportunities for women across all facets of the mining industry. Beyond representation, our members proudly operate across all levels of the mining value chain, from artisanal and small-scale mining to sophisticated trading, financing, and providing multidisciplinary professional services in geology, engineering, law, accounting, insurance, technology, and more. We pride ourselves as the melting pot for diverse professions and a skill since mining itself is broad-based.”

 

Giving a brief rundown of WIMIN, Engr Adeyemi said it’s mission is to safeguard the rights of women impacted by mining operations and to advance the inclusion, retention, and professional growth of women in an industry where their voices were often overlooked.

 

“From a small group of dedicated individuals, we have grown into a formidable force, spanning across 27 states and boasting a membership exceeding 1500 individuals,” she added.

 

She further urged the new EXCO to stick to the core mandate of the body as it strive to promote it idles.

“Promoting Diversity and Inclusion: Advocate for equal opportunities for women in all aspects of the mining industry, from entry-level positions to leadership roles.

Networking and Mentorship: Facilitate networking opportunities for women in mining to connect, share experiences, and support each other’s professional growth. Establish mentorship programs to help women access guidance and advice from experienced professionals in the field,” she said.
