The police in Asaba, on Friday, dragged two men, Enistus Ogwudili and Ifeanyi Agu, before an Asaba Magistrates’ court, over alleged N5.2 million fraud.
Ogwudili, 31; and Agu, 50, are standing trial before the Magistrate, Mrs Edith Anumodu, on a one-count charge of fraud.
They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ifeyinwa Uwakwe, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Jan.31, at a company called Ifeanyi and Sons Enterprises.
She alleged that the defendants failed to remit monies realised from use of the company’s business truck, but instead, converted same to their personal use
According to the prosecution, the first defendant (Ogwudili) defrauded the company to the tune of three million naira, while the second defendant (Agu) defrauded same company the sum of N2.2 million .
The total sum allegedly stolen amounted to N5.2 million
The offence contravenes the provision of section 390(8)(b) of the Criminal Code Cap C21, Law of Delta 2006.
The court granted the defendants bail in the sum of one million naira each, with one surety each in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must reside in Asaba and must provide means of identification as well as electricity bills.
Hearing in the case will resume on March 6.
