3 men in court for allegedly stealing rubbers of rice

Three men, Ajanaku Lekan(24), Akingbade Sodiq (19) and Ajalume Seun(24) were on Friday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing rubbers of rice.

The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a charge of stealing.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants and others at large, committed the offence on May 27 at about 02:00 p.m in Ilawe-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants and others at large stole rubbers of rice valued at N50, 000 belonging to one Oladipo Tope.

Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendants, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until July 17, for hearing.
