
A 35-year old man, Nwosis Chukwuka, on Tuesday, appeared before a Wuse Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged N700,000 fraud.
Chukwuka, who resides at Wuse zone 3, Abuja, is being charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, C.C. Okafor told the court that the defendant collected N700,000 from the complainant, Noel Azubogu after deceiving him of being possessed by am evil spirit.
“He told the complainant that he needed prayers for deliverance. He did not facilitate the prayer and deliverance as promised, but converted the money to his personal use,” Okafor said.
The prosecutor said that the matter was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Wuse Zone 6, by Nnamdi Okpuno on July 3 on behalf of the victim.
She said that the offences contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, A. H. Sanusi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Sanisi said that one of the sureties must be a civil servant, and should provide a valid means of identification and last promotion letter.
The magistrate further ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the matter until August 27 for hearing.
