
The police on Tuesday, charged a 39-year-old man, Abiodun Odugbeni, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged N6.7 million fraud.
Odugbeni, whose address was not provided is standing trial on charges bordering on obtaining by false pretence and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 25 and 26, at about 4.30 p.m. at Ring Road, in Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant obtained some bags of frozen chicken belonging to one Muhammed Ibrahim, with a promise to make payment the following day.
The chicken is valued at N6.7 million.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant made away with the chicken and failed to remit payment till date.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Dec. 9, for hearing.
