5 Reasons People Lie About Their Age

It’s not unusual to come across some people who may prefer to shave a few years off their actual age and lie about their true positions in the journey of life. Here are  five reasons people lie about their age.

Desire for acceptance

It’s an attempt to navigate social situations in a way that maximizes acceptance and minimizes potential judgment or exclusion.

Fear of being left behind

People may feel that they should have achieved certain milestones by a specific age. But if they haven’t, some people may resort to tell lies about their age as a way to fit into these societal norms.

Struggle with self-acceptance

The fear of falling short in accomplishments or meeting life’s demands can fuel this tendency by some people to lie about their age.

A coping mechanism for past trauma

This act of deception offers a temporary sense of safety and control, allowing them to escape the weight of a past they wish to forget.

Discomfort with mortality

Aging is a reminder of our mortality, and that can be unsettling. Those who frequently lie about their age may be grappling with this reality, even if it’s unconscious.
