Abba Suleiman’s NPTF chairmanship appointment well deserved, says group

An Abuja based nongovernmental Organization, Gwaram-Abuja Residents Association (GARA) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the foresight exercised in appointing IGP. Abba Suleiman (rtd) as Chairman of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), saying that the former Inspector General of Police deserves the appointment.

In a statement, signed by the president of the Associations, Comrade Hamza Muhammad, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, the group expressed confidence in the ability of the new Chairman to turn around the fortunes of the  Nigeria Police Trust Fund in line with the mandate of the Board.

‘There is no doubt that IGP Suleiman Abba (rtd) stands out as one of the rare breed of police officers who demonstrated astute professionalism in the force,’ the statement said, adding that the Police Force will once again be placed at a position of advantage to benefit from Suleiman’s wealth of experiences in administrative and security matters, and his patriotic disposition to the service of the country.’

IGP Suleiman Abba (rtd) is a retired Nigerian police officer who served with distinction as the 17th Inspector General of the Nigerian Police.

He was appointed as Acting IGP on 1st August 2014 by President Goodluck Jonathan and later confirmed as substantive IGP on 4 November 2014.

Before his appointment as IGP, Abba was a Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in Charge of Zone Seven, Abuja. He was also Commissioner of Police, Lagos and Rivers respectively.

Expressing further confidence in the ability of the new Chairman of the NPTF, Hamza assured that Abba will no doubt bring his experience in security matters to bear on various national issues while in office as Chairman of the NPTF.

Abba is a Member of the National Institute (MNI) as well as the National Police Memorial (NPM).
