The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has assured the Nigeria Police Force of the Federal Government’s commitment to the prompt release of approved funds to strengthen security operations across the country.

According to a statement by Bakwa Mokwa, director of press in the Office of the AGF, Ogunjimi gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and members of his delegation to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in Abuja.

The AGF said the police remained central to efforts aimed at tackling insecurity and maintaining public order, stressing that adequate funding was necessary for the Force to effectively discharge its statutory responsibilities.

“The role of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the nation’s security challenges is enormous and requires adequate support to enable the Force discharge its responsibilities effectively and professionally,” Ogunjimi stated.

He also noted that the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for June and August 2026 would require significant logistics and operational support for the police.

According to him, the Federal Government would provide the needed backing to ensure smooth security operations during the elections.
Ogunjimi further advised the Inspector-General of Police to sustain engagements with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy to facilitate the release of outstanding funds owed to the Force.

He warned that inadequate funding could negatively affect critical security operations across the country.
Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police appealed for the release of outstanding allocations owed to the Force to enable it carry out its constitutional duties effectively.

Disu stressed the importance of adequate funding ahead of the off-season governorship elections expected to hold in June and August, noting that the police would play a key role in ensuring peaceful and credible polls.

He said improved financial support would strengthen operational capacity and enhance the ability of officers to respond to emerging security challenges nationwide.
