Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Monday raised an alarm that bandits are now targeting the military in the Northwest geo-political zone of the country.
According to El-Rufai, the bandits are becoming bolder in the region, adding that they attack military camps and ambush those on patrol.
The governor spoke in Kaduna when the National Security Adviser, Major Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), led newly appointed Service Chiefs to meet with governors from the Northwest, religious leaders and traditional rulers over banditry and other security challenges confronting the district.
“Daily, the armed forces and security agencies are losing lives,” El-Rufai said.
“The bandits are becoming bolder. They even attack military camps and ambush those on patrol. Lives are being lost.
“We pray for the repose of the deceased,” he added.
Those who attended the meeting include El-Rufai, Governors of Plateau and Chairman, Northern States Governors’ Forum, Simon Lalong, Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Bello Mohammed Mattawale (Zamfara), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina) and Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa.
Others who attended the meeting include the Emir of Zazzau, Ambaßador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, and Islamic scholar Ahmad Gumi.
