Centre LSD convene stakeholder engagement on Ogoni Clean-up

 

The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, Centre LSD, with support from Cordaid, under the Project tagged “Achieving healthy and sustainable environment in the Niger Delta,” will on Thursday, January 30th, 2020 hold a one-day Town Hall Meeting on the Ogoni Clean-up, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

A statement signed by Mr. Amodu Lawal, Senior Programme Officer of the Centre, said that the objective of the meeting is to engage stakeholders on the clean-up of Ogoni land with the view to unearthing the challenges and charting the way forward in the light of the current realities of the clean-up.

The Town Hall Meeting which promises to be a very robust and engaging platform includes deliberation with stakeholders on the overarching goal of ensuring the realization of the clean-up of Ogoni land and the Niger Delta. The meeting will attract participants from the various stakeholder groups including traditional rulers, Civil Society Organisations, women groups, youths, government agencies notably the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) and National Oil Spill Detection & Response Agency (NOSDRA), and the media.

Centre LSD urged participants to be open and frank in their contributions so that collectively in order to evolve realistic strategies that would catalyze the processes leading to the eventual clean-up of the Niger Delta.
