Court Adjourns SDP Case Against Ex-Chairman Shehu Gabam Over Missing Bank Evidence

A Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has adjourned the criminal case filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) against its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, to July 20, 2026, following the party’s inability to present a key piece of evidence.

The National Chairman of the SDP, Prof. Sodiq Abubakar, explained after Wednesday’s hearing that the adjournment became necessary because the party had not yet obtained a crucial bank statement required for the prosecution.

According to him, the party had earlier applied to a Nigerian bank for the document, but the request was not immediately fulfilled, forcing it to seek a court-issued subpoena through the registry.

He said the bank informed the party that the requested records were voluminous and required clearance from its headquarters before certification, requesting about a week to process and stamp the documents.

“As a result of that, we informed the court… and the court has adjourned the matter to the 20th of next month for continuation of hearing,” Abubakar said.

The SDP is prosecuting the case marked DCC/10/2026, in which Gabam was arraigned in May 2026 over alleged financial misappropriation of ₦35 million during his tenure as party chairman.

The court granted the adjournment to allow the prosecution secure and present the bank documentation, which it described as central to its case.

The matter is expected to resume on July 20, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
