Court Jails Man For Three Months Over Internet Fraud

A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta Ogun State has sentenced one Mr. Akinrinmade Adeniyi to three months in Jail for impersonation.

The development according to a copy of press release made available to journalists confirmed that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, secured the conviction of one Akinrinmade Adeniyi to three months imprisonment for an offence bordering on impersonation before Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The statement maintained that the suspected cyber criminal pleaded guilty to one count charge of fraudulent impersonation contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (i) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, brought against him by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the EFCC.

A copy of the release that was issued and signed by EFCC Head of Media and Publicity made available to Daily INDEPENDENT in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital maintained that aside from the jail term, the Court also ordered him to restitute his victim the sum of USD 500 (Five Hundred United States Dollars).
