An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Monday, remanded two suspected secret cult members over alleged possession of dangerous weapons.
The defendants, Adefolaju Segun, 26; and Awowole Seyi, 20, were charged with breach of peace, cultism and malicious damage.
The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, informed the court that the suspects committed the offences on Aug. 20, around 2:00a.m at Odowara Ilode Area, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the defendants arming with dangerous weapons, unlawfully parading themselves as members of a cultist group.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants unlawfully assembled to cause a breach of the peace.
He said that the defendants maliciously damaged the front and rear windscreens, and one quarter glass of a Kia Car with registration number MUS 731 GM belonging to Ayodeji Samuel.
Abdullahi added that the defendants damaged the front and rear windscreens, and one quarter glass of Primera Nissan car with registration number FEE 877 AA belonging to Oyeyemi Ajibola.
The prosecutor stated further that the defendants maliciously damaged the front and rear windscreens, and quarter glass of an unregistered Toyota Camry car property of Mukaila Basorun.
He stated further that the defendants damaged the rear windscreen of Lexus 330 car property of one Jimoh Adereti.
Abdullahi explained further that the defendants maliciously damaged two glass doors of a shop belonging to Awoola Olayinka.
He added the offences contravened Sections 70, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Mr Samuel Obi, applied for the bail of the defendants in most liberal terms, with a pledge that his clients would not jump bail.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi did not grant the bail of the defendants, but asked their counsel to come by way of written application.
Sarumi, therefore, ordered for the remand of the defendants in Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ile-Ife, pending the consideration of their bail.
She adjourned the case until Oct 2, for hearing.
