Court remands man over alleged N197, 000 fraud

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Monday, remanded a 40-year-old man, Oladejo Jelili, for allegedly defrauding  Mercy Moses with the sum of N197,000.

The Prosecutor, Asp Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in Nov. 2023 at Moremi.Street, Ile-Ife.

Emmanuel said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N197,000 from Mercy Moses with the pretene to sell half plot of land situated at Ita-Osa, Ondo Road, Ile-Ife to her.

He said that the defendant stole the sum of N197, 000 that belonged to Mercy Moses by converting the money to his own use.

According to him, the offence is punishable under sections: 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol.11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi, did not grant the defendant bail, but ordered for his remand at Nigerian Correctional Service.

She adjourned the case until July 18, for mention
