The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani has been commended for the series of projects the Ministry had inaugurated under this administration, saying he had set the tune for positive things in the region.
The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung gave this commendation when he paid a courtesy call on his counterpart in the Niger Delta Affairs Ministry on Tuesday.
A statement signed by the Director of Press in the ministry, Marshall Gundu quoted Dalung as saying: “This visit is a golden opportunity to congratulate you on the various projects you have inaugurated in the Niger Delta region since assumption of duty in the Ministry, because the Niger Delta region had been known for abandoned projects over the years.”
The Youths and Sports Development Minister reiterated that his visit was to mobilise support of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs for the national team, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, in preparation for the 2018 world cup in Russia, in order to ensure a good outing for the team.
In his response, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani who expressed gratitude for the Super Eagles’ qualification for the world cup, said President Muhammadu Buhari made a good choice in picking Barrister Dalung as the Youths and Sports Development Minister, giving the height he had taken the Ministry in the past two and half years.
Pastor Usani urged his colleague to explore swimming potentials in the people of the Niger Delta region in order to win more medals for Nigeria at future international sporting outings.
It would be recalled that the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs had carried out a number of development efforts in the Niger Delta region under the leadership of Pastor Usani Uguru Usani and Prof. Claudius Omoleye Daramola.
Recently, the Ministry handed over an oil palm processing plant to the people of Umuehihe Village, Okwu Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State; many youths and women of the region have also been trained and empowered with starter packs by the Ministry, more youths and women are still undergoing training at different locations across the country, while many completed projects are awaiting inauguration across the nine states in the Niger Delta region.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Alhaji Aminu Aliyu Bisalla thanked the Minister of Youths and Sports Development for his Ministry’s interest in partnering with the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs for sports development in Nigeria.
