A growing political realignment has taken place in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rallied behind Governor Dauda Lawal and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another term in office.
The endorsement emerged during a high-level stakeholders’ gathering in Gusau, where party leaders, former governors, lawmakers and grassroots representatives reportedly agreed to support the two leaders as consensus candidates for the next electoral cycle.
Among those who attended the meeting were influential political figures including former governors Ahmed Sani Yarima, Mahmuda Shinkafi, Abdul’aziz Yari and Bello Matawalle, alongside senior party officials and representatives from the 14 local government areas of the state.
Party insiders described the move as part of efforts to consolidate unity within the APC in Zamfara and strengthen the party’s structure before the 2027 polls. Speakers at the meeting reportedly praised the Tinubu administration’s policies at the federal level while also commending Governor Lawal’s performance in infrastructure, education and public service reforms across the state.
A communiqué issued after the meeting reaffirmed the stakeholders’ confidence in both leaders, stating that the endorsements reflected a shared commitment to continuity and political stability.
The development comes amid increasing political consultations and alignments across several states as parties begin early preparations for the 2027 elections. In recent weeks, discussions around consensus candidacies and internal party reconciliation have intensified within the APC, especially in states considered politically strategic.
Observers say the endorsement could reshape the political landscape in Zamfara, where alliances among influential political actors have historically played a major role in determining electoral outcomes. While supporters of the move describe it as a sign of growing cohesion within the party, critics argue that early endorsements may limit internal competition ahead of the primaries.
Nonetheless, the latest declaration signals that the APC leadership in Zamfara is seeking to present a united front as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next general elections.
