Obaro Rejects APC Kogi Central Primary Result, Claims Victory Over Yahaya Bello

The Obaro Grassroots Alliance for Senate 2027 has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary for Kogi Central Senatorial District, insisting that its candidate, Momoh Yusuf Obaro, won the election.

In a statement issued by its Head of Media, the group alleged that the result announced by party authorities did not reflect the true outcome of the primary.
The alliance claimed that figures collated by its agents showed that Obaro secured 44,270 votes, while former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, polled “slightly above 20,092 votes”.

According to the group, Obaro had toured all five local government areas in Kogi Central ahead of the primary, while his supporters and grassroots coordinators mobilised extensively for the exercise.

“The Alliance notes with deep concern that an aspirant allegedly imposed by certain party authorities was declared winner despite widespread reservations surrounding the transparency, credibility, and fairness of the process,” the statement read.

It further argued that Obaro enjoyed broad support across the senatorial district and could not have been rejected by party members who had openly backed his aspiration.

The group maintained that internal democracy, fairness and justice must prevail within the party, insisting that the collective mandate of party members should not be undermined.

“We strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, equity, and justice must prevail within the party, as the collective voice and mandate of party members cannot and should not be suppressed,” it stated.

The alliance also alleged that the declared candidate did not participate in the party’s screening process, adding that it would explore all lawful and democratic means to challenge the outcome of the primary.

“The Obaro Grassroots Alliance maintains that Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro overwhelmingly won the primary election and therefore rejects the announced result,” the statement added.
The group said it was reviewing the conduct of the exercise and would soon determine its next line of action.

It, however, urged supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding while consultations continue.
