Diri, Dickson Mock APC Over Attempts To Take Over Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and his predecessor in office, Senator Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa West), at the weekend laughed off attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to wrest power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Diri and Dickson spoke separately during the PDP Bayelsa West grand reception in their honour as well as the Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, in Sagbama on Saturday.

While Diri declared that the PDP was the choice of the people and remained the party to beat, Dickson vowed that the APC would never dislodged the party.

The governor, who thanked Bayelsa West for the honour done him, said, “By God’s grace, PDP is still the party to beat in Bayelsa State. Today is not for campaign, but it is a day for unity.

“Do not divide the house because you are yet to get appointment. This is one family and we would increase in number. We have been doing that and receiving defectors and returnees in their numbers.”

He urged the people of Bayelsa West to remain united and work to consolidate on the party’s achievements.

Dickson, while expressing gratitude to his senatorial district for the recognition, said he and other PDP stakeholders would work strategically with Diri to defeat the APC again in future elections with God on their side.

He mocked the APC for thinking that it could capture the state in 2015 when the PDP lost the presidential election, and allegedly rigging the 2020 governorship poll that brought his successor into office, but things turned around in favour of PDP less than 12 hours to inauguration of new government.
