Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called for a coroner’s inquest into the death of Mary Habila, who reportedly died at the residence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
Sowore made the call in a post published on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, which was sighted by VERITY NEWS.
According to him, the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death remain unclear and warrant a thorough investigation before her burial.
He argued that all necessary investigative and forensic procedures, including an autopsy where required by law, should be concluded to establish the cause of death.
“There MUST be a coroner’s inquest into the death of Mary Habila at the residence of Tinubu’s Minister of Works, David Umahi,” Sowore wrote.
He added that, given what he described as the “mysterious manner” of her death and unanswered questions about why she was at the minister’s residence, it would be in the interest of justice to carry out a comprehensive investigation.
Sowore further urged authorities to resist any attempt to hasten Habila’s burial until all legal and forensic processes had been completed.
He also claimed that Habila died with blood flowing from her mouth, alleging that the circumstance suggested an unnatural death.
The activist further referenced what he described as previous allegations of mysterious deaths linked to Umahi, including the deaths of five NELAN engineers, which he claimed remain unresolved.
Neither the Minister of Works nor relevant law enforcement authorities had responded to Sowore’s claims as of the time of filing this report.
