Dr. Muazu assumes office as Permanent Secretary

The newly posted Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu assumed office on Wednesday, 3rd January, 2018 to replace his predecessor, who retired from service in December, 2017.

A statement from the ministry signed by the Assistant Director, Public Relations, Rhoda Ishaku Iliya said the Permanent Secretary who was received by both the top management and staff of the ministry expressed gratitude to God and to President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve the nation in that capacity.

He said the remarkable stewardship and achievements of his predecessor was possible as a result of the harmonious working relationship that existed within the top management and staff and there was need to build on these achievements and continue to work together to assist the ministers to transform the mining sector, and make it one of the key drivers of the nation’s economic diversification.

Dr. Muazu solicited for the support and cooperation to succeed on the task before him and promised to maintain an open-door policy and to try to carry everybody along. He enjoined all staff to be conscious of the fundamental ethos and core values of the civil service. “We are required to play by the rules. As top management, we all know the rules. We will strive to play by the rules and be fair to the system and the country. We are all serving a government that is pursuing fundamental reforms with three years strategic plan approved by the Federal Executive Council, and socio-economic sectors with the ERGP and Executive Orders. We must all be change agents to assist government to achieve its policies and programmes” he said.

He promised to take staff welfare very seriously saying, our human resource is our most important resource and there was need to make the working environment as conducive as possible.

The Acting Permanent Secretary and Director, Human Resource Management, of the Ministry Malam Sanusi Muhammed Ashiru, in his address welcomed the Permanent Secretary and his entourage. On behalf of the Minister and Minister of State he assured the PS of the Ministry’s maximum support and cooperation to succeed in his duties.
Malam Ashiru also told the Permanent Secretary that plans are on ground for departments, units and the agencies under the Ministry to brief him accordingly.

On the entourage of the new Permanent Secretary were the Permanent Secretary, Youth and Sports Development Mr. Adesola Olusade, Director Planning, Monitoring and Information, Mrs. Hauwa Kulu Akinyemi, Director FA, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Tony Hassan, Director Human Resource Management, Malam Umar Maigana and Director Finance and Accounts, Mr. Salihu Zakari both from the Ministry of Transportation, among others.
