Engr. Nkom wins NUJ-FRCN Award, named ‘Most outstanding Director-General in Nigeria mining sector’

The Director-General, Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom has been recognized as ‘The Most Outstanding Director-General in the Nigeria Mining Sector’ by the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ FRCN Operations Chapel, Abuja.

The recognition was bestowed on the multiple award-wining Director-General and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers during the Press Week activities of the NUJ-FRCN on Wednesday, 10th May, 2023, in Abuja.

According to FRCN Abuja Operations Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Director-General earned the recognition in view of his exceptional performance in administration and his ability to lead the successful implementation of strategic reforms in the mining sector towards the development of the Nigerian economy.

Engr. Nkom, who is also a Fellow of the Nigeria Mining and Geoscience Society has served as President of the Society.

The Media Body further explained that under Nkom’s leadership, the Mining Cadastre Office scaled revenue target and recorded increase in revenue generations, raking-in over N8.9 billion between 2019 and 2022. This, the media body described a milestone and significant pointer to the commitment of government, through the Agency, to the pursuit and realization of the set goal of national economic diversification.

Giving more reasons for bestowing the honor on Engr. Nkom, the NUJ-FRCN chapel said: ‘Another reason is the recent unveiling reforms of automation of the Mining Cadastre system that has transformed online and real time mineral title administration and management.’

The media body described Engr. Obadiah Nkom as an administrator who stands-out, stating that ‘his good disposition towards the media is second to none’.

‘Since Engr Nkom came on board as Director-General of the Agency, he put in place strategies that led to improvement in the visibility of the MCO, one of which is the establishment of a Press Unit in the Agency in 2019, a development that has presents the MCO as a media-friendly organization,’ the awarding media body added.
