The Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME) has announced a 4-day countdown to its 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and International Conference, scheduled for October 19 to 22, 2026, at the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State.
The four-day event, themed “From Potential to Prosperity: Engineering the Solid Mineral Sector as a Catalyst for Nigeria’s Economic Renewal,” will focus on strategies for transforming Nigeria’s solid mineral resources into drivers of economic growth, industrialisation and sustainable development.
The conference is expected to bring together mining engineers and other stakeholders to examine the challenges and opportunities in the solid minerals sector, particularly the need to strengthen local processing, attract investment and deploy modern technologies to improve mining operations.
A major focus will be the beneficiation and downstream processing of solid minerals to promote value addition, reduce dependence on raw mineral exports and create opportunities for domestic industries.
Participants will also discuss advances in mining engineering and technology, with emphasis on sustainable mineral resource development and improved exploration and production methods.
Sustainable Mining, Digital Transformation Environmental management, mine rehabilitation and sustainable mining practices will feature prominently at the conference, reflecting the need to balance mineral exploitation with environmental protection.
The conference will also examine the application of digital transformation and smart mining technologies in mineral exploration and production, as the industry seeks more efficient and sustainable ways to harness the country’s mineral resources.
Another key area of discussion will be financing the solid minerals sector, including investment opportunities, risk management, and public-private partnerships to support the development of mining projects.
The discussions are expected to explore practical approaches to addressing barriers to investment and strengthening the sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic renewal.
Registration Opens Ahead of the Conference With 4 days remaining before the conference. The NSME has urged interested participants to register for the event ahead of its commencement.
The conference will hold at the Adankolo Campus of the Federal University, Lokoja, with activities scheduled to run from October 19 to 22, 2026.
The event forms part of efforts to advance professional engagement and promote the application of mining engineering expertise to Nigeria’s solid minerals development.
Interested participants can obtain further information through the society’s website, www.nsme.org.ng, or its official communication channels.
